Why it's hard to get clients right now I've been speaking with lots of motion designers recently, One thing is clear: it's tough to get clients right now. Whether it's due to the economy or increased competition. The reason doesn't matter. What matters is what you do about it Reader I've been helping motion designers get clients since 2017. What's changed in that time? Well, a LOT! What has stayed the same is that businesses thrive or fail based on the relationships they've built. Perhaps you have experienced this. You may have received the majority of your previous work via referrals. This is because of the unique relationships you have built with others over time. But relying only on referrals isn't enough anymore. Companies have more choice than ever because of remote working and the influx of more motion designers. How can you take an active approach to relationship building to create more work opportunities for yourself? You need a repeatable and flexible system that you can rely on. You may have posted on LinkedIn or sent lots of cold emails. However, these tactics often fall short without a system or strategy behind them. This is the big problem. Posting isn't enough. You need to be intentional about building relationships and nurturing them over time. This is how you stand out. People hire individuals they know, like and trust. You can build more trust by fostering relationships consistently. You need a system for that because you can't keep all these relationships and contacts in your head! Have you ever looked back in your emails and found a client conversation you completely forgot about? Don't feel guilty about letting a potential client lead go cold. Instead, let this motivate you to work on your freelance business and establish systems to alleviate the stress of keeping up with contacts and acquiring new clients. A Client Relationship Manager (CRM) is a client outreach system vital to maintaining client relationships. On Monday, I'll teach you how to use a CRM effectively to build powerful relationships that will result in more clients and projects you love. Speak then Hayley P.S. You may have heard I'm hosting a special live event this summer. Client Quest Live will help you build your unique client system, stand out, and attract clients you love. |

This issue is sponsored by Pitch Have you ever had your day completely turned around by a small act of kindness? Last week, I disembarked from a sauna-like train from Manchester to London. I saw a group of young women taking photos of a handwritten message left by the Underground staff. It immediately made me smile. It got me thinking about how we might create these unexpected moments of delight for our clients. 😊 5 smile-trigger ideas for your clients: Send them a “motion design health...
Hey Reader, Nassib is a motion designer with 20 years of experience in the industry. He’d never had a system when it came to client outreach. Never properly organised his client relationships. Or maintained a systematic approach to follow ups. Nassib finally went back through his email history as part of a Client Outreach Sprint we did inside Creative & Coin. Buried in his inbox was a potential $60k project he never followed up on! He learned the client did go ahead with that work....
